Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP)

Established on November 8, 2006, via Presidential Ordinance, the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) operates under the administrative oversight of the Ministry of Commerce. As the successor to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), TDAP's mandate encompasses a comprehensive approach to global trade development, moving beyond the singular focus on export promotion. Designated as Pakistan's premier trade organization, TDAP is structured to be a dedicated, effective, and professionally managed entity.

The EPB, established in 1963 as an attached department of the Ministry of Commerce, played a significant role in facilitating national exporters. Over its 43-year tenure, it supported more than 20,000 exporters in international exhibitions and managed over 2,000 trade delegations. The EPB also provided a platform for commercial dispute resolution. Consequently, Pakistan's exports witnessed substantial growth, increasing from under $0.25 billion in 1963 to approximately $16.5 billion in 2005/06. Recognizing the need for enhanced professional expertise and a shift from a perceived bureaucratic image, the EPB underwent a transformation into the more dynamic and professionally equipped TDAP.

TDAP's mission is to foster holistic export development and promotion through strategic focus, synergy, and stakeholder collaboration. This involves proactive and innovative marketing efforts, coordination with public and private sector entities, value enhancement of products and services by diversifying the export base, strengthening the supply chain, promoting an export-oriented culture, and encouraging foreign investment and joint ventures.

TDAP's vision includes improving market access by advising the Government on trade diplomacy and enhancing Pakistan's business image in key global markets. The overarching goal is to achieve a significant increase in Pakistan's exports through the application of professional management, advanced international marketing strategies informed by market research and analysis, and the utilization of modern technology. TDAP aims to cultivate a highly motivated workforce with opportunities for career advancement and skill development, aspiring to become a role model for Trade Promotion Organizations in developing countries.
